Easy Pipette Exchange
Quick and easy pipette exchange is accomplished using the two rotary pivot stages each with adjustable stop mechanisms. The adjustable stop mechanisms, found in both the headstage and rotary pivot stage, consists of a brass block, a locking ring, two setscrews and a pin.
Once the set stops are adjusted to your working conditions, you can change pipettes easily and quickly return to the field view under of the microscope. To further simplify the pipette exchange procedure without losing your home position, use our Burleigh® PCS-500 Steep/Shallow Headstage Bracket with a sliding stage and repeatable stops at both ends of travel.
Piezoelectric Technology
Linear Stage with Piezoelectric Flexure Assembly
The heart of the Burleigh® PCS 5000 system is the Piezoelectric Flexure Assembly, which is integrated into the linear stage. The aluminum stage utilizes cross roller bearings and provides manual coarse control through a 32 thread-per-inch leadscrew with a range of 25mm. Fine control is provided through the Piezoelectric flexure with optional ranges of 150 or 300 micrometers and a resolution of <60 nanometers. The stage can be provided without the Piezoelectric element if only coarse control is required.
Piezoelectric actuators are resistant to internal thermal drift. When external thermal changes are considered, a Burleigh® system contributes the same or less thermal position drift than other components such as the microscope, mounting structure and headstage. No other micromanipulator has inherently lower drift than a Burleigh® micromanipulator.

Operational Features

- The Burleigh® PCS-520 Micromanipulator Assembly is comprised of three linear stages, two rotary stages (with lockable stops), angle brackets (one set), and a headstage mounting plate.
- The solid-state nature of Piezoelectric actuators produces virtually zero heat while providing smooth, predictable motion, free from backlash and drift.
- Headstages and pipettes are easily installed using the headstage mounting plate.
- You can easily optimize the angle of approach using the rotary headstage pivot; this standard feature makes for easy set-up on upright and inverted microscopes, especially useful when working space or distance is critical. Using the adjustable stop mechanism, any angle can be selected and easily repeated.
Flexible Power Supply
The Burleigh® PCS-PS60 Power Supply (Optional accessory) provides a regulated, ultra low noise, constant 60-volt output for the Axis Control Unit. The power supply can be shared by two Burleigh® PCS-5000 micromanipulators / ACU systems to minimize cost and space consumption when multiple manipulators are required on the same microscope. Input power is 100 volts to 240 volts and 50/60 Hz ensuring world- wide compatibility.
